Brenda and Jeremy are two amazing guys from Singapore. They spent three days in Italy and contacted us for some amazing and unconventional engagement photos here in Milano.
After chatting with them we planned a shooting around the Duomo area, in the early morning.
We were looking for an urban mood, a little moody and cinematographic. So we met up at 6.45 am, when the city was still asleep.
In The Mood For Love: the intersection.
For this work we made a moodboard based on one of our favorite film: “In the mood for love”, by Wong Kar-wai.
The film has been inspired by a book of Liu Yichang , titled ”Duidao”, that means “intersection”. And we worked on this concept: the intersection of bodies, the eye contact and the use of space.
We didn’t want to recreate the film, a total nonsense for us.
We were intrigued by the body language of every couple, the importance and seductive power of the looks, the sweetness of some embraces.
In the film there’s a sense of suspense created by what happens outside of the frame and is not visible. In our shoots the suspense is created by the unspoken words.
The composition of our photography has been based, in this case, on this sense of suspense.
We choose the early morning for its slowness, for its rhythms.
Brenda and Jeremy are always working on the airplanes, waiting to meet each other in some part of the world. So we tried to speak about the melancholy of this waiting and the deep love of this couple. And we tried to make their embrace last forever.
The film has acid colors, a perfect match with the asian contest. We chose an urban mood, with a poetic use of cold colors. We treated our photos with an analogue feeling, especially in the second part of the shooting, at Castello Sforzesco.
During this morning we also shooted some experimental blurry B/W, that were based on the movement. They’re the exact opposite of the slow part. In this way we created a sort of perfect portrait of the natural balance of this two guys, with a frenetic work and a romantic and accomplice relationship.
